How do we choose the right tricycle for the little one?
There are so many models of tricycles on the market that we wonder how to choose the right one for the little one. All I knew was that we wanted to give up the carriage rides, because he wanted more freedom and because summer was coming, and a tricycle was what he needed. So I started searching. I had in mind a list of what I would like, and for us the main aspects we took into account were:
1. Be ultra-foldable and easy to tighten
This was very important for us. We often travel by car, we have a lot of luggage and we didn't want the tricycle to occupy half of the trunk, we don't have a big trunk anyway. We also wanted it to be quick to fold and easy.
2. Be multifunctional
We preferred to invest in a multifunctional tricycle, to be able to use it for a longer period of time. I was looking for one that offers accessories that can be attached or removed depending on how well the little one knows how to ride a tricycle.
3. Freewheel system and footrest
Being still small, I preferred to take one with this type of system that makes the front wheel spin while the pedals remain stationary. And the footrest must be folded so that it does not bother to pedal in the future.
4. The frame
I didn't want one made of plastic, I wanted the tricycle to be made of steel / aluminum. Keep in mind that child safety is at stake. The metal ones are more durable, shock resistant, offer a good balance, being able to be a means of learning to pedal for more than a generation, amortizing their initial investment.
5. Seat Belts and Seat Bar
I wanted a 5 points seat belts, adjustable and with shoulder protections. And I also wanted a front bar (it's a ring that surrounds the baby's pelvis) for extra safety.
6. The chair
A great advantage is that the chair can be tilted (sleeping position).
7. Solar cover
Another option I wanted was a sun cover to protect it from the sun's rays when needed. Ideally adjustable, removable and made of UV-protected material.
8. The wheels
We think they are particularly important, we wanted rubber wheels, being quiet, durable and with good shock absorption.
9. Storage accessories
I didn't focus on them, I always had a bag or backpack with me. But, I wanted a glass holder placed on the handlebars of the tricycle.
